Creative mathematical thinking and problem solving for KS3

This course combines the theory and principles of effective gifted and talented provision with practical demonstrations of how to apply this in the classroom.

Course outline

  1. How to create stretch and challenge in the classroom.
  2. How to encourage higher order thinking and questioning.
  3. Put your student hat on and explore tasks designed to promote evaluative and analytical skills.
  4. What's out there? A guided tour of challenging maths resources.
  5. Putting it into practice – discuss and plan how to make it happen in your classroom.

Course leader

Anne Price is an independent consultant and senior lecturer in education, teaching post-graduate level courses in gifted and talented education. With experience as an Advanced Skills Teacher, Key Stage 4 consultant and a long career in secondary education, she has worked with teachers on a wide range of teaching and learning issues specific to mathematics.

Creativity and mathematics is of particular interest and Anne has written a book called Creative Maths Activities for Able Students.
