Right to Decide

Ethical decision-making for KS3 and KS4

This course combines the theory and principles of effective gifted and talented provision with practical demonstrations of how to apply this in the classroom.

Course outline

  1. How to create stretch and challenge in the classroom.
  2. Right to Decide (part 1) – put your student hat on and experience how this ready-made course promotes critical thinking and creativity. How do we make decisions when faced with difficult situations? Explore complex ethical issues and evaluate the evidence.
  3. How to encourage higher order thinking and questioning.
  4. Right to Decide (part 2) – make your recommendations, justify your team's decision and reflect on the experience.
  5. Putting it into practice – discuss and plan how you can adapt and implement Right to Decide in your school.

Optional follow-up

Bring your students to a showcase workshop and share findings with other teachers.
