This resource on media literacy is designed for key stage 4 or 5 students. It introduces the students to the theories of semiotics and provides the tools necessary for reading media.


There are nine key areas to explore covering concepts such as:

  • How context affects meaning.
  • Designing newspaper front pages and writing scripts.
  • How meaning is contested and shifts over time.
  • The idea of language as an internally referential system.
